Here’s the whitepaper we promised, titled The Business Analyst Workbench – Equipping and Empowering the Modern BA. This paper goes into depth analyzing the roles of the BA, the set of possible requirements definition approaches that can be used, the phases of the requirements definition life-cycle, and the tools that a modern Business Analyst needs to perform their tasks.

Excellent work on a very interesting topic. It seems I am hearing more and more that “good requirements” isn’t just about getting the requirements into a management tool.
Requirements definition and collaboration tools are - in concert with the management tool (comprising the “workbench” as you call it)are beginning to get more emphasis.
I’m very interested in the “workbench” concept and the impact it will have on the BA role. Again, thanks for the great read. It definitely provided some food for thought.
That said, any thoughts on what “workbenches” you’d recommend to someone that was looking?

I would recommend Requirements Center from Blueprint. Note that there is a “Buyer’s Guide” for BA Workbenches on requirements.net (derived from the whitepaper) to aid in selecting a BA Workbench.
