There is a fantastic three-part series over at RQNG (Requirements Networking Group) that discusses the challenge of bridging the “IT silos” and how requirements are a key element.
An excerpt from the second installment:
The first part of Mr. Andrew Hayward’s three part series on Requirements and Bridging the Silos described how, in larger development efforts, the division of resources into roles often reduces the effectiveness of communication and hinders understanding of requirements. Collaborative analysis and design methods, commonly referred to as JAD sessions, and the use of a requirements management tool that is accessible to analysts, designers, developers and customers, were recommended remedies to these communication barriers.
The second installment will continue with two other common silos, testing and implementation, and will describe how to increase understanding of project requirements within and between these groups and the benefits of improving communication with these silos.
